Tempeh Sloppy Joes

Tempeh Sloppy Joes

Hello FRANNNNDS!

A few weeks back I asked my IG fam what recipes you guys wanted to see health-ified and vagan-ized, one response was SLOPPY JOES. Wow, I haven’t had on in ages but I thought I give it a try… let me say IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Now these are going to be a monthly thing in my home.

These are super easy, take about 20 minutes and are packed full of healthy plant based protein!

Let’s get started shall we?

Ingredients:

*makes 6-8 servings

  • 16 oz Tempeh

  • 1/2 C white onion

  • 1/2 C green bell pepper

  • 1 tsp garlic

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder

  • 1 1/2 tbs coconut sugar (or white sugar)

  • 15 oz can tomato sauce

  • 1 tbs yellow mustard

    -buns of choice

Instructions:

  1. Start by dicing your white onion and bell pepper into small cubes. Heat up a pot with 1 tbs of oil on medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper into your pot and cook for 5 minutes until onion is soft.

  2. Next, crumble your tempeh block (I use my hands to break it up), add all tempeh into the pot along with your cooked onion and bell pepper. Cook for 10 minutes to brown tempeh slightly.

  3. While that cooks measure out all of your spices and add in after the 10 minutes is up. Along with the spices add in remaining ingredients.

  4. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until everything is combined and warm. Add mix to your buns and ENJOY. (I added pickled onion and dill pickles on top!)
