My favorite Zero Waste DIY's

My favorite Zero Waste DIY's

IT’S HERE IT’S HERE! Finally a space to see all of my absolute favorite Zero Waste DIY’S.

I am obsessed with DIY-ing and making my own cleaning/beauty products. I am very against all of the toxic beauty products and cleaners for our home that we typically see in the supermarkets. All of those products that are made specifically for “tile, grout, tub, sink, metal, oven, walls, drains….etc…” are just so pointless and most of all horrible for our health.

Since going low waste within the last two years it has really opened to my eyes to the market of useless products, so I thought to myself…. most of these products do the same things just with a different name and a different set of toxins…. why not make my own products that we can use in multiple spots for all different uses and make them NON TOXIC! (plus, not much will be going to landfill as most of these products can be made package // plastic free!)

So I have rounded up all of my favorites in one spot for you all: starting with cleaners and ending with some beauty / skin products.

  1. All Purpose Cleaner

To start with one of my most used products (and the first DIY product I ever made!): All purpose vinegar cleaner.

    Ingredients:

    -white vinegar

    -citrus peel

    -distilled water

//Start by infusing some vinegar, I like to infuse mine with citrus peel, put your citrus peel (lemon or orange peel) into the jar and pour white vinegar over until all the peels are submerged. Let sit for 2-3 weeks.

//Once done infusing remove the peels and transfer vinegar to spray bottle and use measurement of 50% water to 50% infused vinegar. Shake to combine and start your cleaning! (**DO NOT use this on porous surfaces such as untreated wood or marble, this will stain!)

  2. Dish Soap

Obviously I use this one every single day since I am ALWAYS in the kitchen cooking. This recipe I actually got from someone elses blog that I will link HERE.

  3. Glass cleaner

This one is so easy and so effective! It will take away any gunk and dust on all glass. 2 simple ingredients: water and white vinegar!

    Ingredients:

    - 50% water / 50% white vinegar

//Put into a glass spray bottle and shake to combine!

  4. Floor Cleaner

I have laminate floors (I have not tried this on real wood floors yet!) but this would also work well on tile as well.

    Ingredients:

    - 5 C distilled water (warm)

    - 1/4 C Castile soap

//Combine warmed water and castile soap, stir to combine then simply use with a mop or reusable cloth pad. This will keep well in the cabinet as well.

  5. Hand Soap

A staple in everyones home! BUT have you actually took the time to read the ingredients on typical hand soap?! its so toxic and drying. This one is so dang simple and only has two ingredients.

    Ingredients:

    - 1 tbs castile soap

    - 1 C water

//Add ingredients into a squirt bottle and shake lightly to combine!

  6. Bath tub / tile scrub

When the tub gets extra grimy and full of nasty soap scum this helps it all come off soooo easy and is super gentle for the tub and your skin! (because we all know how grossly drying typical bath tub scrubs are, thats why most people wear gloves!)

    Ingredients:

    - 1/2 C baking soda

    - 1/4 C castile soap

    - 10 drops essential oil (optional)

//Put ingredients into a small bowl or jar and stir to combine. Use a bamboo brush or old tooth brush to scrub tile/ bath tub. Then simply rinse with warm water.

  7. Yoga Mat Cleaner

I do yoga multiple times a week and also bring my mat on the go with me so I definitely need to keep it clean! I actually wrote a blog post about this one and I will link it HERE.

  8. ACV hair rinse

This is AMAZING because I no longer use conditioner anymore and this works PERFECT. It helps balance the PH of your scalp and helps keep hair silky smooth. (also will help with scalp dryness)

    Ingredients:

    - 1/3 C Apple cider vinegar (with the mother)

    - 3/4 C water

    - 10-15 drops of tea tree oil (optional but I recommend!)

//Put all ingredients into a spray bottle and shake up to combine. Spray on wet hair after shampoo and work into your roots with your finger tips. Let sit on hair for 5-10 minutes then rinse. (once hair is dry you cannot smell the ACV don’t worry!)

  9. Dry Shampoo

Okay I stand by dry shampoo 1000000% especially when its non-toxic and smells like a brownie! I bet you have both of the ingredients in your cupboard with now too! I wrote a whole blog post on this one and I will link it HERE.

  10. Whipped Lotion

This is a whipped full body lotion and your guys have probably seen this one a million times thats because I use this multiple times a day! I go more into detail about why I love it and how to make it in my blog post that I will link HERE.

These are all of my favorites so far, I hope this helps to have them all in one space now. If you guys have any questions about any products don’t be scared to reach out and comment below! Thanks for looking.
